After I spend my weekend for a vacation at Pangkor Island last week, now my semester break almost come to the end. I do nothing at home. I just spending my time with my niece and surfing the net. Surprisingly, my windows xp had some problems. I don’t know since when my pc infected by trojan. I have scanned with my Kaspersky Antivirus but the scanning and cleaning process seems a waste of time. The trojan is called TrojanProxy. I am not talking about afham@trojan

This Trojan runs under Windows. It creates a hidden proxy server (allowing up to 100 connections) and then sends the IP address of the victim machined and cached passwords to its creator. It also downloads additional .exe files from a web site, and updates itself by executing these files on the victim machine.

I can’t view my blog and a few other blogs. Everytime I try to visit my blog, the firefox will display the error like Server not found. Firefox can’t find the server at bla bla bla.

When I use my Ubuntu Gutsy Gibbon, everything went smoothly. I can visit my blog and all other website at ease. So, the problem is the infected windows xp with trojan. I still don’t find any solutions on the web. I have scanned with Kaspersky, had clean all the trojan but then I still can’t view my blog. This happens to my Internet Explorer and Firefox. Right now, I am happy with my Ubuntu.

My brother asked me to download a file but I don’t have a download manager or download accelerator on my Ubuntu. I like to download faster so do you. I refer to a post on melayubuntu about the software use in Windows and Ubuntu but couldn’t find any download manager or download accelerator for ubuntu. I try to find a download accelerator program for Ubuntu on the net and I found two programs which is Downloader For X (D4X) and AGet.

Everybody knows about the famous Flashget or Internet Download Manager for Windows XP that can download with super fast speed. Downloader For X (D4X) is almost the same with Flashget and Internet Download Manager, but D4X is created especially for Ubuntu. With nice interface or GUI, D4X will surely help you with your download process.

Secondly, AGet is also the best choice. But AGet don’t have the nice interface like D4X, AGet is operated using command from Terminal.To download a file using AGet, you just need the location or URL of the file.

Then, open your Terminal, type “aget -n10 http://blablabla.com/mawi.mp3” without quote.

-n10 is the number of segment that we will split the file, in this case we will split the file into 10 segments. Splitting file into segments is the concept of fast download application. The file will be split and the the download process occurs simultaneously or we can called this Multithreaded Download Accelerator.

http://blablabla.com/mawi.mp3 is just a sample URL (I like the song not the singer). Replace it with the URL of the file you want to download.

In term of speed, AGet is faster than Downloader For X. Look at the two screenshots above. Tests show that AGet is slightly faster than Downloader for X. A file of size 17.6MB was downloaded in 4 minutes 8 secs via Downloader For X; whereas it was downloaded in 4 minutes 4 secs via AGet. The slight different may make a huge difference for a big file. Now, I am happy with my Aget and Downloader For X on Ubuntu Gutsy Gibbon. Happy downloading!

If you want to install AGet and Downloader For X on your Ubuntu, just open your Synaptic Package Manager (System-> Administration) and search for aget and d4x, mark for installation, apply and you are done. Thats the best thing using Open Source.
